Andrea Bastidas (Statement 1)
I agree with the first statement because it's true that young teens and maybe even young adults don't like talking on the phone and prefer to just text. In ways it's just easier to text because you can send a quick text and be on your way or it gives you more time to think of a good response instead of on the spot answer when you're talking with somebody on the phone. Also in the statement, in my opinion, it pokes fun of the apps because the writer talks about how if someone makes an app to talk with another person they could make a lot of money even though there's a call button for free.

I agree with the fact that texting is easier than calling someone. I know that I personally do not like talking on the phone because I feel like I never know what to say. I agree with your statement about how sending a text gives you more time to thing of your response. Instead of sitting on the phone with awkward silence while thinking of a response, texting allows you to answer at your own leisure without wasting anyone's time.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with you because texting does not have the same effect as communication of the power of voice. Voice can convey emotion that texting can not begin to apprehend. I have had many encounters of misunderstanding in which the way I texted a statement did not come off as apologetic or sincere to that person it was sent to. With communication on the phone you can easy convey emotion with the tone of your voice. But even with emoji as i feel someone will bring up can also convey the wrong emotion or seem to playful in certain situation and seem less serious . I feel like communication over phone is way more effective.
DeleteYou all make great points. Texting certainly has its advantages. It is quick, easy, and can ease anxiety in certain situations. Yet the disadvantage is that it can be misinterpreted, and even a delayed response can seem negative.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point about poking fun at the app!
